The Four Years War is the Federation–Klingon conflict framed by Prelude to Axanar as a Memory Alpha Historic Society documentary (stardate 2241.03). It is the narrative spine of the Axanar productions.

Fleet doctrine shifted under wartime pressure: exploratory classes gave way to pure warships. FASA's apocryphal supplement The Four Years War supplies class lists — Marklin, Sawyer, Bonhomme Richard, Larson — that the Society cross-references in Ships of the Line.

The war's decisive campaign is the Battle of Axanar, where Captain Garth of Izar secured a victory that later Academy generations would study as required reading. Kirk would call Garth his personal hero — a chain of legend the Axanar productions document in documentary form.
