Self-host the catalog

Our in-browser player already uses WebTorrent (WebRTC) so fans can peer-download without installing anything. This page is for technically inclined users who want to persist the films offline and seed them indefinitely so the On Demand network stays healthy for everyone else.

Why self-host?

Progressive masters live on Axanar Media (Tigris) with dual HTTP webseeds (including Internet Archive). BitTorrent adds a peer layer: every fan who keeps a complete copy uploading reduces origin cost and keeps titles reachable if a CDN is slow or offline. You are not “pirating” — these are official free On Demand releases distributed with magnets we publish.

  • Browser path: Peer download on the film page (WebRTC + webseeds) — no install.
  • Desktop path: Magnet or .torrent in qBittorrent / WebTorrent Desktop / Transmission — best for long-term seeding.
  • Same infohash whether you use magnet or .torrent — one swarm per title.

Top clients for video

Prefer clients that support play while downloading (sequential download + first/last pieces first). Pair incomplete files with VLC or mpv if needed.

qBittorrent setup

  1. Install from the official site (no adware bundles).
  2. Options → BitTorrent → enable Download in sequential order and Download first and last pieces first.
  3. Open the magnet or .torrent from any On Demand film page.
  4. Right-click the video file → Preview file, or open the incomplete file in VLC/mpv.
  5. Leave the torrent running after 100% to seed (Tools → Options → BitTorrent → seed forever / ratio −1).

WebTorrent Desktop

  1. Install WebTorrent Desktop.
  2. Paste the magnet (or drop the .torrent).
  3. Playback starts as pieces arrive — seeking re-prioritizes pieces.
  4. Cast to TV via Chromecast / AirPlay / DLNA when available.
  5. Keep the app open after download to contribute upload.

Transmission tips

Enable sequential download in preferences (wording varies by OS). On macOS the native UI is ideal for background seeding. For always-on archives, run Transmission as a daemon on a home NAS or small VPS and add all catalog magnets below.

Magnet links

A magnet is a compact URI: the content infohash, display name, public trackers (WSS for browsers + UDP/HTTP for desktops), and optional HTTP webseeds. Clicking “Magnet” on a film page hands that URI to your OS default BitTorrent handler.

  • No separate file required — great for sharing in chat or docs.
  • Our magnets announce on ~28 open public trackers (no registration) plus DHT.
  • Dual BEP-19 webseeds (Axanar Media Tigris + Internet Archive) keep downloads moving when the swarm is cold.

.torrent files

The .torrent file is only metadata (piece hashes, name, trackers, webseeds) — not the movie. Same infohash as the magnet. Prefer same-origin /torrents/<slug>.torrent downloads so WebTorrent gets a CORS-friendly bootstrap.

If a client only has the infohash (no trackers), metadata caches like btcache.me can sometimes recover a .torrent — our site already publishes the full file so you normally won’t need that.

Seed for perpetual archive

Streaming in the browser helps short-term. Desktop seeding is what keeps titles available for the long haul — “archival in undefined perpetuity” for the next fan who opens a magnet five years from now.

  1. Download each title you care about to 100% on a always-on machine if possible.
  2. Set seed ratio to unlimited; do not auto-remove completed torrents.
  3. Port-forward or use a VPN that allows inbound BitTorrent if your ISP NATs aggressively.
  4. Optional: re-seed from Internet Archive webseeds when your local copy is the same file (our published infohashes match the progressive stream masters).
Every seeder is bandwidth we don’t have to buy. Thank you for running a node of the fleet.

Smoothest video experience

  • Always enable sequential download (or first/last pieces first).
  • Use VLC or mpv on incomplete files if the client preview is weak.
  • On large masters, let the torrent reach a few percent before pressing play.
  • Privacy-conscious seeders: bind the client to a VPN interface (qBittorrent supports this natively).

Quick start: install qBittorrent as your main seeder; keep WebTorrent Desktop for “watch this right now” sessions.
